My favourite reason to use cloth is the cuteness. They look so good on little bottoms and are so adorable. They also provide a nice soft landing when babies topple over when learning to stand and walk. This is followed very closely by how much money they safe me and how good they are for baby and the environment.
I could say because it's better for the environment, cheaper in the long run than disposables but the reality is that I LOVE the way my kids look with cloth bums :D
I wanted to mother the way my mum did, cloth nappies, breast feed, make my own cleaning products, bake from scratch and so on. The environmental factor was a big plus, as was the extra room in my garbage bin every week for real rubbish and not have to squish our rubbish in the inlaws bin. Hopefully when my kids grow up cloth nappies will be the norm once again.
As a foster mum I got sick of wasting time and money having to go buy disposibles everytime a new baby came into my care so I decided to follow my daughters footsteps and start using mcn's. Now all I have to do is pull a few out of my little nappy stash and away we go. Easier on the pocket, the environment and bubby's bums :-)
I was motivated for all of the usual environmental and health reasons to use cloth but the thing which means most to me is that my little boy is a sensitive soul and he loves soft, snuggly, cuddly textures and sensations, cloth nappies harmonize with this well, I know he is comfortable and happy in cloth in a way he couldn't be with papery, chemical-y disposables.
Because my little one looks so cute with a cloth bum and they are so much prettier than disposables. I also really appreciate the money savings, especially being down to one income while on maternity leave!
My first reason I first started using cloth was for environmental reasons then my bub developed a severe allergy to the chemicals in disposable nappies which drew us to use cloth full time. I then discovered 'pretty nappies and now we are hooked <3
At first I did it to save money, and I still am but now my son prefers them and gets a little grumpy if I put him in a disposable, they are pretty cute too. It's better knowing he doesn't have chemicals on his bum too. I can't wait to have enough in my stash to do full time :)
I used flats for both my two older kids, and for this baby I will be using both flats and MCNs. I use cloth nappies because it is cheaper than using straight disposables. Also while using cloth my babies are much happier and experience less nappy rash. Also my mum used cloth, so this was my first motivation. But it became more convienient than using disposables, you have to take a used nappy out to the bin, while cloths doesn't really add much more washing. Amy Bellion amyoneill@optusnet.com.au
why not use cloth??? Better for bubbas bums, and way cuter too!! can have a nappy for every occasion/outfit! If you don't get too addicted it is way cheaper than sposies! Environment... did you know the first disposable nappy ever made is still sitting in landfill??? and it takes more water to make a disposable then to wash cloth!
not only for the environment, less chemicals and money saving, but you know when you walk into a babychange room at the shops or something and it just stinks of poo ?!?!?!?! yep, I KNOW that I do the right thing and flush it, if only other people did too, the world would be a much better, less stinkier place :) Lauren Burke lauren.burke@students.mq.edu.au
